Realm + Wild – Jewelry fueled by a love of nature.   I have discovered so many amazing, socially conscious businesses on Instagram.  People who are creating awareness, shifting the way business is done, and giving back.  There seems to be a growing trend of a more conscious consumerism.

I recently spoke to Alexia, the owner of the company, to see how she got started.

What inspired you to start Realm+Wild?

The love of nature and wildlife paired with the need to do something meaningful with my career.

How Long have you been creating these pieces for?

My first piece, Logan (the spirit wolf) came to me this past November.  Prior to that, I was playing around with some ideas and the business plan for about a year.  It took some time to find the appropriate partners here in the U.S. to produce the piece in an eco-conscious manner.

Where do you sell your line of jewelry?

Currently on-line through my website.  I am currently developing an exclusive assortment to offer small business channels, boutiques, that I hope to launch in the Fall.  I also want to directly partner with organizations that support Wildlife Conservation to create exclusive pieces to promote their specific causes.

Tell me a little bit about how you got started?

My entire adult career has been in the fashion industry.  Being exposed to production practice that constantly undermine consumer intelligence, environmental implications, and human rights got me to rethinking my career path.  So now, in addition to developing my own brand.

I love your business model, and see that these types of business practices are becoming more and more prevalent in today’s consumer climate.  What inspired you to start this kind of business?

When I sat down to draft up a business plan, I really wanted my heart to drive the entire process.  I’ve been a long-time advocate for wildlife and the environment and felt as though I was at a place in my career where I can inject my interests into fashion in a meaningful way and support like-minded manufacturers at the same time.  A win-win all around.

How did you start your business?  Where can we find your line of jewelry?

To be honest, I really don’t know.  I had an idea one morning and I was able to bring it to life with the skill sets I had obtained through my experience in the fashion industry.  Having worked with a number of brands and companies, I was able to implement a lot of the best practices, lessons learned, organizational and operational strategies and tailor them down to best suit my one-woman-show.  So far, things have been coming together very organically and I definitely want to continue on that path.

I have really enjoyed this experience of building my brand using the ‘wisdom’ from larger fashion companies and redefining the practices to put people and the environment first.  I would love to connect with other like-minded brands to share in our collective wisdom and collaboratively raise the bar.  It’s truly something my heart is in.
